St Eriksgymnasium and discussions at the Stockholm UN Association

During week 16 Realstars visited music, art and drama students at St Eriksgymnasiet (the St Erik high school) to hold lectures and workshops focusing on sex trafficking and Fair Sex. On March 25, the International Day of Remembrance of Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade, RealStars was also invited by the UN Association in Stockholm to lead a discussion on the topic “trafficking – the slavery of our time”.

At St Erikgymnaiset we meet awesome art students in two classes. They got to listen to our lecture and participate in the workshop as an introduction to the concept of human rights. The student showed great enthusiasm and came up with good questions and reflections on norms and expectations in regards to gender identity, discrimination in society and why boys and girls are treated differently. During this spring the two classes will put together events on these matters and I encouraged them to do something on the topic of “”Fair Sex – against trafficking”.

The discussion on ”trafficking- the slavery of our time” was held in order to acknowledge the UN International Day of Remembrance of Victims of Slavery and was arranged by the Swedish UN Association. The discussion was focused on sex trafficking and the participants had many questions and thoughts on this matter. The discussion was followed by a workshop about how the message could be expressed creatively.

The outcome of this discussion was among others things this incredible poem:

“She promised me the stars
He promised me the moon
They promised me the sea as I was in need.

She gave me the direction
He gave me the wheel
They gave me opportunity as I was unpleased

In the end of the journey
Into their town
It was all a sham as the tear feel down

I felt tired so I gave them me
The took me with pleasant and kept me in sill

Now I live in fear, can anybody see? Is this my destiny?
Everybody taking piece of me

She promised me the stars
He promised me the moon
They promised me everything but all I received was wound”
