Hi!
My name is Fanny Nyrén, and I am the new intern at RealStars for the fall. I have long been engaged in the fight against sex trafficking and prostitution, which led me to seek out organizations like RealStars. With a bachelor’s degree in Global Studies, I have gained valuable insights into global issues such as poverty, conflicts, and diversity, and I hope to contribute these perspectives to my work here.
Personally, I love traveling and discovering new cultures. Last year, I spent a vacation abroad and studied in Seoul, South Korea. I also completed a 10-week internship at a nonprofit organization in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, that supports women in vulnerable situations. These experiences have deepened my commitment to gender equality and social justice.
For my thesis, I chose to focus on sex trafficking and wrote about the work of local civil society organizations to combat the sexual exploitation of minors in the travel and tourism sector in Pattaya, Thailand.
As an intern at RealStars, I will be working to raise awareness about sustainable travel and the responsibility that hotels, tourists, and the public have in creating a world free from trafficking. I have seen a lack of knowledge in the travel industry regarding sex purchasing and prostitution, and I look forward to contributing to changing this.
Ahead of the EU Anti-Trafficking Day on October 18, for example, I will visit hotels and interview the public on this topic, which you will be able to follow on the blog. I will also be involved in work at the EU level to spread and implement the sex purchase law to promote a fairer and safer society for all. Additionally, I will participate in lectures, events, and updates on RealStars’ blog and social media.
I am really looking forward to my time at RealStars. It will be valuable and rewarding to gain hands-on experience in this field. I am excited to meet people, educate others about this important issue, and continue learning more.
