On Monday, our process leader in Stockholm visited Kunskapsgymnasiet Globen and held three lectures for first-year students. The lecture was the final component of the school’s theme week on sexuality, consent, and relationships.
Together, we discussed the root causes of prostitution, the myths that allow paid abuse to continue, and who is affected. We reflected on the new forms of the sex industry through digitalization and platforms like OnlyFans and SugarDating, which glamorize prostitution. Many were shocked by the statistics we presented – that as many as 1 in 10 men in Sweden have bought sex at some point, and that prostitution occurs in as many as 80% of Sweden’s Thai massage parlors.
