Three questions to Matilda Sjöström, Steget

My name is Matilda Sjöström and I´m 29 years old. I live in the best city in the world, Gothenburg, and I just had my second child and life is sweet. I´m a singer in the band Steget. True love and music is the best thing I know. Besides this I´m a project manager, I have arranged club-events in Gothenburg for over 10 years. One of my biggest dreams is to open my own place, a lovely hangout with lots of music. Right now we at Steget are writing new material and are recording a new CD, which feels great.

1. What do you think is the most important thing in life?

I think that the most important thing in life is to strive to be happy and a good person. My family and friends  mean everything to me but I’d also like to try to make the world a better place to live in, for others as well.

Being a fellow human being and caring for others is extremely important. It feels like society has become so indivualistic, but we need to remember that we ALL need each other that the society is so

2. What would you like to see more of in the society?

Solidarity. And I mean exactly like the way the word is explained in a dictionary: The meaning of solidarity is: a community taking responsibility for something jointly, that as a part of the community each and every one acts without self-interest and where our actions are with consideration of others.

I would also like to see that people stopped trying to buy themselves happiness and instead understand that we are over-consuming way and while doing that we are destroying our Earth and our relationships with each other. Socialize more, buy less!

3. Does Fair Sex as a term have the status it deserves in the society and what challenges do you see?

Absolutely not. I’ve barely heard of it before. For me Fair Sex means equality and respect. Women Sex Trade is the third largest trade in the world and is not “fair” in any way. This issue is rooted all over the society and it comes down to the respect for each individual.

I think gender issue might be a challenger in this matter and I believe that it has a lot to do with the roles we are assigned in the society. These roles must vanish for us to be whoever we want to be without social pressure.

4. Do you have any favourite leggings?

Unfortunately, I always wear black leggings. I always think I should wear red or green because it´s so much fun with colors but I always end up wearing the black ones instead. And this applies to colors in general. I almost always wear all black.
